Here we have some BEFORE and AFTER renovation shots.
Whilst looking through some old papers yesterday I found 3 pictures of the buildings at La Richardière taken in 2003 before the restoration took place.
Here we have some BEFORE and AFTER renovation shots.
Autumn has fully arrived in and around La Richardière. Due to the wet spring this year the trees and shrubs have high sugar contents at this time and so the leaves have acquired rich golden, orange and copper colours.
The villages around us are preparing for Christmas. Tress are being erected and the road sides are adorned with seasonal decorations. Within a couple of weeks there will be numerous Christmas markets in the local Chateaux and Church squares.
In the local schools, Children, teachers and instructors are making final preparations for Christmas Concerts and Christmas spectaculars.
This weekend has seen the annual festival of "Les Journées du Patrimoine". In this festival all national monuments and buildings in France are open to the public, free of charge, and many have special events.
Our closest Chateau, the Chateau at La Celle Geunand, held a weekend medieval event. There were many attractions including a Medieval Market, Animations, Tir à l'arc (archery), visits under the chateau into the cellars and a special "repas" at lunchtime on Sunday. This meal was accompanied by musicians and dancers who performed music and dance of "old France" and sang madrigals. It was a thoroughly good entertainment.
In the village of La Celle Geunand there is also a museum of Tools (Musèe de l'Outils), some 4,500 tools, and some 25 old tractors on display. Dave was somewhat surprised to see some technological items he used when he was at University and when he first started teaching. Namely a "Banda" duplicating machine and an Olympia Typewriter!!

We were delighted to be mentioned in the Guardian Newspaper recently in connection with electric cars. One of our guests was driving £91,000 worth of Tesla and it transpires that he worked as a Technology Correspondent for the Guardian Newspaper.
Check it out - it makes interesting reading.

Lovely day out at Chateau Villandry. Only 80km from La Richardière the Chateau offers a magnificent house which has a history preceding the French King Françoise 1st. The most striking feature of the Chateau is the surrounding Gardens. Acres of beautifully manicured features. Vegetable gardens, flowers of many kinds, beautifully sculptured trees, lakes, waterfalls and walks in the woods. Our day included lunch at the Salon du Thé which is at the Chateau entrance. Best to book a table.
We have written about the lovely sunsets here at La Richardière. They happen all too often that one could over look their beauty. A rarer event is the sunrise. A different experience altogether and a different view to the East.
This sunrise was recently followed by a beautiful sunny day which means that the old English saying of "red sky in the morning - Shepherds' warning" doesn't really work here in France.
Whilst walking the dog this morning I turned to view La Richardière from a new angle. What a calm and tranquil Island Oasis we are in the middle of the French countryside.
Alors que la promenade du chien , ce matin, je me suis retourné pour voir La Richardière sous un angle nouveau . Quel calme et tranquille Island Oasis nous sommes au milieu de la campagne française .
Today's Christmas Market was at Ferrière-Larçon. A much bigger market based around the church and flowing outside into special marquees. Many more stall holders and the buzzing ambiance made this the better of the two markets we visited. #christmasmarkets #france
Today saw the first of many local Christmas Markets in this region of France. We visited the village of La Celle Geunand where the Christmas Market was being held in the Chateau. We enjoyed an excellent "repas" of Wild Boar, Carol singing from the The OK Chorale (from Le Grand Pressigny) and many excellent displays of craft work from local artisans.

Tree clearing is an all important part of managing our environment. Our difficult trees were felled recently leaving a huge pile of trunks, branches, twigs and leaves.
The last week has seen us clearing all the arboreal debris and all that is left is a collection of wood for the fire, although, it will have to season for two years from now.
There has been a distinct change in the weather recently. Morning temperatures are now around 8 deg C and work has to be done in long trousers! Goodbye shorts. I even had to wear my wellies and my Gilet yesterday.
Having launched our new website yesterday we are now pleased to announce our new blog. You can find us at www.larichardiere.net/la-richardiere-blog #frenchholidays #gites #france

We are looking forward to work starting on our swimming pool next week. We will be installing a new pool liner and filtration system and a heating system. Next season the pool will be warmer for much longer in the season. Look out for blog posts about the progress of the improvements.
